HD DVD vs Blu Ray - Toshiba says to continue working closely with Warner Bros on HD DVD format

Toshiba Corp said it and Warner Bros Entertainment will continue to collaborate closely towards the commercial launch of high-definition DVD, the next generation DVD system, despite the US filmmaker's decision to join the Blu-ray disc format.

The Blu-ray format advocated by Sony and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd rivals the HD DVD technology proposed by Toshiba.

'Toshiba and Warner Bros continue to collaborate closely toward the commercial launch of HD DVD,' Toshiba said in a statement. 'We understand Warner Bros continues to strongly support HD DVD due to its outstanding features, cost structure and market readiness.'
