The Samsung DVD recorders line consists of three multi-format models: DVD-R100, DVD-R300 and DVD-HR800 that includes a 120 GB hard disk drive.
Samsung DVD-R100
- Writes DVD-RAM and DVD-R/RW;
- DVD-RAM format offers more recording versatility, including advanced editing features, “pause live TV” and “Time Slip” functions;
- Progressive scan video output;
- VBR (Variable Bit Rate) and “Auto Fit” recording;
- One-touch two-way dubbing (record from VHS tape to DVD media and vice versa);
- IEEE1394 (FireWire) input (direct recording from camcorder).
The quite low price (about $300) for its category makes this product highly competitive.
Samsung DVD-HR800
This model offers pretty much the same options as the DVD-R300, but it adds a 120 GB built-in hard disc drive (HDD). This offers up to 160 hours of recording time in the lowest video quality. Using the highest recording quality (XP), maximum recording time is only 26 hours. At wish, you can select “Auto Fit” recording mode that will automatically adjust the recording mode to the program duration; using VBR mode, the unit will allocate more resources to scenes that require them (fast motion scenes, foggy-backgrounds etc.)
