This belongs to the second generation DVD recorders of Philips, released in February 2002. Philips is the inventor of the DVD+R/RW format and this unit uses it. This product is currently discontinued but you can find better featured Philips models today: the DVD-R75, the DVD-R80 or the HDR612 Philips TiVo combination.

Philips DVD-R75

This unit records up to six hours of video material in the lowest quality mode on a 4.37 GB DVD+R media. You can record directly from TV using VCR Plus+ feature, or from your camcorder through iLink (FireWire) input. When recording from video tape, Philips DVD-R75 uses the “Virtual Time Base Corrector” to enhance the video-quality. The on-screen user interface makes this unit easy to program. The DVD player is multi-region.

What else is new on DVD-R80: “Guide Plus+”, a seemingly TiVo function that you can use to program your recordings. The player is also multi-region.
